Inspiration: To listen lovingly to the body's messages without resisting.

Greetings. From time to time I do write about exercise and share with you bits of my own journey. The truth is, I have been preoccupied with exercise, how much, how often and how long for quite some time. My yoga practice is helping me surrender more fully to be okay exactly where I presently am.

As we increase in our years, the amount of physical and emotional stresses also tend to rise. Depending if we have moved our bodies vigorously or not for many years, will have a profound effect on our current state. High intensity, consistent exercise will deplete our energy levels over time resulting in additional stress.

The most important component of movement is to really listen to what your body needs. The ego may say " I have gained weight so let's go running". However, you may have tight hamstrings and low back issues which would only be aggravated by this. The modality is secondary. The point I am reinforcing is to move in a way your body desires. Yes, there are some days you will feel empowered and strong. Absolutely work a bit harder. As long as you are coming from a grounded, healthy place.

Exercise, or movement as I like to refer, requires tuning in and really paying attention to what is being asked. Listen, breathe and honor the body's need to move authentically.

Have a very "peaceful" day.

Project Runway Surprise on West 78th Street

Inspiration: To feel confident in each moment regardless of what transpires around me.

Last night at around 6pm, I was headed towards my local frozen yogurt store. I had just gotten out of the shower before I had to sit down to a fitness webinar at 7pm. I threw on my sweats, thermal and glasses. It was beginning to rain, so I had my umbrella in tow. Thinking it would be a 5 minute unmonumental walk down the street, I figured it didn't matter what I was wearing.

To my SURPRISE, I wish it did. Upon leaving the store, something made me turn my head to my immediate right. Lo and behold I saw Seth Aaron Henderson, from Project Runway fame and his wife, healthfully smoking a cigarette. No need for sarcasm, we all have our vices. My desert wasn't exactly the healthiest.:) Anyway, I stopped in my tracks, bewildered but wanted to say something.

The first thing out of my mouth was "What are you doing here and I am so embarrassed." Then I realized the external layer is just that, a layer and went inside to express my true appreciation of this man's work. He said the finale was tomorrow (tonight) and that was why he was here. Actually in the immediate now, he mentioned his kids were inside the store I had just left.

From my heart, I told him he is wonderful and deserves to win. He appeared a bit introspective and appreciative at the same time. I guess he was not "expecting" to be noticed in the drizzling rain next to the candy store and pizzeria on West 78Th Street.

The message for us all is you never know when something "wonderfully" unexpected can be in your path. A friendly reminder to always look your best, but most importantly speak your truth from your heart.

Have a very "peaceful" day.

The Joneses

Inspiration: To be mindful of material possessions.

Yesterday, early evening, I went to the movies. It was a Friday and it was nice to unwind from the week and just escape for a bit. I love having the freedom to do this. This is a bonus of my work. Make my own schedule, decide what works. I feel rather decadent going to a movie theater in the late afternoon that is not even half-full. I get to sit on the aisle and have a couple of seats vacant for me to sprawl out.

I decided to see the movie " The Joneses". I was curious to see Demi Moore in a movie since it has been some time she has made one. Have to admit, she looks better than she ever did. Maybe being married to a younger man has a big effect.:) Something I will consider. Anyway, the premise of the movie was about materialism. A "seemingly perfect family" (To quote a reviewer), move into an affluent neighborhood with kids in tow, with the intention of turning people on to the most hip and expensive, luxury goods. However, this family was not a real family but a business entity.

Without giving too much away, the local people were enamored with their confidence and what they had. This created a domino effect. People bought the goodies they showed off. Unfortunately, externals ultimately provide a band aid for our true feelings. The rest you can find out by going to see the movie.

While it is "wonderful" to have nice things, it should never take over
your identity. The people in the movie derived their self-worth by what they sold and who they impressed. This is an externally directly way of living. Authentic, inspired living comes from inside; living from your heart space.....Don't get me wrong, nice things are wonderful but it is important to be mindful of intention. Positive, productive intention with an open heart. Think about that, and then go shopping...

Have a very "peaceful" day.

The Simple Pleasures

Inspiration: To go where I am filled with joy.

Springtime. The flowers are in full bloom; varies colors and textures. Simply beautiful!!! Now that the weather is a bit warmer, I love to frequent the grassy pastures in Riverside Park in the late afternoon hours. This gives me an opportunity to surrender and let go. Of the repetitive thoughts and concerns of daily life.

It is here I find my grounding. Literally. Lying in the grass barefoot, most time directly on the earth. There is such a sweet surrender in this process for me. I drift off into a blissful state (many times napping) and awake a new. This may sound decadent to some who feel the time can be spent in a more productive manner. I cannot reinforce, that this is productive. You will feel a serene peacefulness in this letting go, if for even a short time.

For those who do not have as much flexibility in their schedule, I recommend detoxing from your day in a natural environment, even if only for ten minutes. No thoughts, just continuous deep breaths. From this place the answers to your life's deep mysteries will unravel at the perfect time.

So for those residing in NYC, please make a choice to spend time in nature whenever you can. Savor in the beauty that is all around. Let go and simply be "still". The world will offer itself at your feet.

Have a "wonderful" day.

A Perfect Day...

Inspiration: To find the gratitude in each precious moment.

Yesterday was my birthday. At 10:45 am on April 9Th (at least that's what my mom says), I was born into this world. At 10:41 am, I received a beautiful message from my dear "intuitive" counselor and friend, Elana. At 10:45 am, I was outdoors and the trees began to swell in the wind, sending me a message. I felt I was being honored and blessed as the beautiful flowers were ascending in all directions.

The day was simple. I bought flowers for myself as if I was my divine love. AS I am presently single (at this moment, next can change), I felt as if I were in love. A stop to Sephora, the market and then an AWESOME evening yoga class to wind down. This is where my heart is happiest. To feel my body and breath move in ways I never thought possible. Having been an avid gym rat for nearly 20 years, I am feeling a softening, on all levels because of my now frequent, yoga practice. This coupled with a new early morning ritual, is setting the tone for the trajectory and purpose of my life's path.

Today, the second day of this new birth year, I embrace the simplicity and gifts that are available in each moment. Right now, the birds chirping outside my window and the cool breeze I feel at my feet.

I hope you can all find a space within to embrace the simple pleasures each day, with gratitude and an open heart. From this place is true bliss.

Have a very "peaceful" day.

Happy Birthday to Me !!!

Inspiration: To embrace the wisdom I receive with each passing year.

Today is my birthday. I am 44 years young and feel very blessed. The path to wholeness and healing is what inspires me. As each year passes, I look back to what I have experienced and learned.

This past year has been a great challenge but through it all, I have come out the other side. Stronger, more centered, empowered and "grateful". It is our life experiences that shape who we are now and who we are destined to become.

Do you have a dream in your heart? Hold on tight. Have faith and be patient. Don't allow distractions to take over. Move forward fearlessly with love and respect for all beings (even those that are difficult). Each one of us is on our own journey. The plan is "perfect". Stay present, be still and breathe fully and deeply.:)

May you all have a very "peaceful" day.

Creating Space Within

Inspiration: To continue to make space in my mind and heart for new opportunities.

Greetings. This inspiration comes from an "intuitive" counseling session I had recently. One of the messages I received was to stop "the doing" the processing. That my mind and heart were being filled with thoughts, hopes and desires, but there was no allowing for the miraculous to enter.

We all get caught up in making things happen. Pushing for this situation or that situation to occur. One of two things happens. It turns out as we hoped or it doesn't. Simple, right? What if there is something other, better, more peaceful at arriving there? Wouldn't you like to know the answer? Me too......

One way I am finding access to this space is be "giving up". Energetically, giving up. The striving, the wanting, the longing. This way there is a freedom, an openness. Less stress, more peace and infinite possibility.

With the doingness of it all we get caught up in the mind. When we are simply "being", situations we long for will happen at precisely the right time.

The more I commit to breathing, sitting quietly, and yoga, the easier this is becoming. I invite you all to take a deep breathe, let go and just be.

Have a very "peaceful" day.

With Love,

The Early Morning

Inspiration: To embrace the stillness within.

Good morning. I awoke early today to the sounds of the birds chirping and the bums outside going through the recycle bin for cans. Lets just say I am a light sleeper.

So here we are, Friday morning. The end of the week work for many. It is going to be a beautiful day here in NYC. Spring is definitely here. The heavier clothing is starting to shed its layers. Most importantly, I can wear my birkenstocks again.:)

In the late afternoon hours, I really love to go to Riverside Park and recline in the grass, shoes off. There is a healing power here. A connection to the natural elements that provides me with grounding. Where everything makes sense.

Is there a place that makes you feel at ease? Especially here in the big apple, it is really a gift to find a sacred sanctuary to just unwind, even for only a few moments. So today, I invite you all to take some time out of you day and enjoy the beauty that is all around.
